This is the best option for small to medium sized sites and allows the hosting cost to be at the lower end. Your website is placed on the same server as other sites.
Typically, all of the sites on this server will share resources, such as RAM (Memory) and the CPU (Processor).
Virtual Private Server (VPS) hosting divides resources into virtual servers. This is a one to many relationship = One server to many VPSs.
This setup allows for the ability to move a VPS between many servers. This type of hosting allows the client to get to the server root and puts the responsibility of maintaining the server on the client.
The client gets their own dedicated server and has full control over it, but they do not own the server.
This hosting is used for large ecommerce websites, web-based applications, secure private content (think human resources) and for running multiple websites off a database. The client can get to the server root and is responsibile for maintaining the server.
Cloud Hosting is scalable and reliable. A cloud hosted website can be more reliable than others since "the cloud" compensates when hardware goes down. Power disruptions or natural disasters can be less problematic for cloud hosted sites, as cloud hosting is decentralized. THis is a bit of a newer system for web hosting and will become more popular as the technology evolves.
Apple's MobileMe iWeb publishing service is being discontinued on June 30, 2012. They are transitioning MobileMe to iCloud. With this transition they are removing the ability to publish your iWeb website to iCloud.
